Bucknell Field Hockey Falls to Lafayette, 2-0 in Final Regular Season Match

EASTON, Pa. - On a cold and windy day at Metzgar Field, the Bucknell field hockey squad dropped a 2-0 decision to Lafayette. Bucknell fell to 7-9 (1-4 PL) on the season, while the Leopards improved to 5-13 (3-2 PL). With the loss, the Bison still clinched its second-straight Patriot League tournament appearance and will be seeded fourth. The Orange and Blue will match up against No. 1-seed American at 11 a.m. on Nov. 4, in the first round while No. 2-seed Holy Cross will battle No. 3-seed Lafayette at 1:30 p.m.
Lafayette posted the game's first goal when Lauren Fabian found Caitlin Titus for a tip-in in the 12th minute of the first half. The Leopards continued on the offensive, but the Bison defense kept the score at 1-0 heading into the intermission. Lafayette notched 10 first half shots, while the Orange and Blue collected four. Senior goalkeeper Emily Groendyke (Glen Gardner, Pa./Voorhees) tallied five saves in the half, while Jill Lambert posted two for the Leopards. Lafayette held the penalty corner advantage over the Bison, 5-1.
In the second, the Leopards put the game away with unassisted goal by Fabian in the 40th minute to stretch their lead to two. Bucknell held the second half advantage on shots and penalty corners over Lafayette, 7-6 and 4-3, respectively, but the Leopards held the overall advantage in both categories, 16-11 and 8-5, respectively.
Groendyke ended the game with nine saves and has collected 89 saves on the season. Senior Callista Costopoulos (Shermans Dale, Pa./West Perry) posted five shots, while sophomore Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) notched three for the Bison.
