LEWISBURG, Pa - Behind senior Emily Groendyke's (Glen Gardner, N.J./Voorhees) career-high seven saves, the Bucknell field hockey team posted its second straight victory at Graham Field, defeating Cornell, 3-2. With the win, the Orange and Blue improved to 6-6 (1-2 PL), while the Big Red fell to 4-7 (2-3 Ivy).
Cornell jumped on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal scored by Abbi Horn in the ninth minute of the first half to go up 1-0. The Bison answered the Big Red goal with back-to-back tallies by senior Katie Urosevich (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg), who scored her fifth goal of the season off a scramble in front of the net in the 23rd minute, and sophomore Trina Boyer (Macungie, Pa./Upper Perkiomen), who tallied her fifth goal of the season when she received a pass from fellow sophomore teammate Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) off a penalty corner in the 24th minute. Bucknell took a 2-1 advantage into halftime.
In the second, the Big Red would fight back, tying the game at 2-2 when Katlyn Donoghue sent a shot past Groendyke in the 45th minute. With less than 20 minutes left in the match, Faust found sophomore Emily Hutchison (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) on a penalty corner for her third goal of the season in the 53rd minute. With that assist, Faust tied senior teammate Alex Kyzmir (Lisle, N.Y./Whitney Point) for first place at Bucknell in assists in a single season with 10.
The Big Red held the advantage in shots and penalty corners in the game, 9-5 and 8-6, respectively. Groendyke collected five saves off Cornell's six shots taken in the second half. Lizzie Goldblatt recorded zero saves in the contest for the Big Red.
The Bucknell field hockey team next travels to Worcester, Mass., to battle Patriot League opponent, Holy Cross, who is currently tied with American for first place in the league at 3-0. The match will begin at 12 p.m.
