
Bucknell Field Hockey Drops 5-2 Decision to Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Bucknell field hockey team suffered its second straight defeat to a non-conference opponent as the squad fell to Brown, 5-2, on Warner Roof Sunday afternoon. Senior Katie Urosevich (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) and junior Chyncia Smith (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) tallied goals for the Orange and Blue as the team fell to 6-8, while the Bears improved to 8-5.
The first half was deadlocked at 0-0 until the 21st minute when Brown's Stacy Gugliotta tallied one of her three goals in the match after she received a pass from teammate Victoria Sacco to put the Bears up 1-0. Two minutes later, Urosevich put Bucknell on the scoreboard when sophomore Steph Graf (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks East) found her in front of the net for her seventh goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1. Before the half, Samantha Lloyd posted the second goal for Brown in the 34th minute as the Bears took a 2-1 lead into the intermission.
In the 43rd minute, Andrea Posa netted Brown's third goal extending the advantage to 3-1. Gugliotta completed her hat trick when she tallied back-to-back goals in the 52nd and 65th minutes of the game, respectively, to put the Bears up 5-1. In the 67th minute, Smith scored for the Bison off a direct penalty corner from junior Kelly Hoffman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) and sophomore Katie Ruiz (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg).
The Orange and Blue was outshot 19-7, while Brown held the penalty corner advantage, 5-3. Senior Emily Groendyke (Glen Gardner, N.J./Voorhees) collected seven saves in the match to give her 70 saves on the season.
The Bucknell field hockey team will host No. 15 Villanova at Graham Field in Lewisburg, Pa. on Oct. 25, beginning at 6 p.m. The match will be broadcasted on 90.5 WVBU and also on the Sportsjuice.com.
