LEWISBURG, Pa - Sophomore Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) notched one goal and three assists as the Bucknell field hockey team snapped its five game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over Colgate at Graham Field Saturday afternoon. The Bison picked up their first Patriot League victory and improved to 5-6 (1-2 PL) while the Raiders fell to 2-10 (0-3 PL).
The Orange and Blue struck first as sophomore Trina Boyer (Macungie, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) scored off a penalty corner when Faust found her on the right side of the goal to put Bucknell up 1-0 in the third minute. In the 12th minute, Boyer and Faust hooked up again for the Bison's second goal when Faust found Boyer in front of the net for her second goal of the match and fourth goal of the season to put the Bucknell up 2-0. Colgate fought back with back-to-back goals of its own when Laura Flisnik and Natali Plesniarski scored in the 15th and 25th minutes, respectively.
With less than a minute remaining in the half, Faust recorded her third assist of the match when she found freshman Megan Krebs (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) on the left side of the net for the game-winning goal and her second tally of the season.
Bucknell held the advantage in shots and penalty corners, 10-4 and 7-2, respectively at the end of the first half.
In the second, Bucknell would put the game away when Faust notched her seventh goal of the season off a direct penalty corner from sophomore Steph Graf (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks East) and senior Alex Kyzmir (Lisle, N.Y./Whitney Point). Kyzmir is now three assists shy of tying Jen Zimmerman for first on Bucknell's all-time list.
Graf picked up her third defensive save of the season. Senior Emily Groendyke collected five saves in the Bucknell victory while Jacque DeMarco tallied seven saves for Colgate.
The Orange and Blue will be back in action on Monday, Oct. 16, to battle Ivy League opponent Cornell at Graham Field in Lewisburg, Pa. The match will begin at 6 p.m.
