Bucknell Indoor Track and Field Plans to Host "Heptagonal"

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's indoor track and field is scheduled to host the scored Bucknell "Heptagonal" on Saturday, Jan. 21, in the Gerhard Fieldhouse in Lewisburg, Pa. After being away at the Black Squirrel Invitational in Kent, Ohio, last weekend, the Bison return to host their third home meet of the season. Other schools in attendance will be Duquesne, Lock Haven, East Stroudsburg, Saint Francis (Pa.), Wagner and Towson's women's team.
The Orange and Blue competed in three meets so far this season, including one scoring meet, the Black Squirrel Invitational, where the women came home with a first-place victory and then men finished in fourth.
Junior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) has been undefeated in the weight throw and broke her own school record twice this season, along with qualifying for the 2006 ECAC Indoor Championships. Grap, whose best mark so far has been a heave of 59-01.25, recently picked up two consecutive Patriot League Indoor Female Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Senior Kayla Halloran (Norwell, Mass./Norwell) has been undefeated in the mile run, while junior Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) qualified for the ECAC Championships in the pole vault during the very first meet of the season, with a recorded leap of 11-9.75. Junior Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) should be a threat on Saturday in the 800-meters, while freshman Kati Dempsey (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) and sophomore Nicole Ayala (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) will be competitive in the jumping events.
On the men's side, junior Tyler Hoffman already qualified for the IC4A Championships in the weight throw and recently moved up in the Bucknell record books to sixth, with a launch of 56-7.25.
The men's distance medley relay team comprised of junior Mark Caroleo (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon), senior Matt Corbetta (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester), senior Kevin Brown (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) and sophomore Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Acad.) also qualified for the IC4A's with a time of 10:08.91.
Freshmen Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) and Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) should be exciting to watch in the 60 and 400, respectively, while fellow newcomer Ryan Robinson (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) will be strong in the high jump. Junior Matt Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) will lead the Bison in the distance running events, along with Brown.
Field events are scheduled to start at 11 a.m., while the running events are slated for noon, beginning with the women's 55-meter hurdle trials.
