Bucknell Women Dominate Army in Swimming Portion of Dual Meet, 181-79

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Bucknell women's swimming and diving team dominated Army, 181-79, to clinch a victory in the teams' dual meet after 14 events on Friday. The divers will compete in the Black Knight Diving Invitational this Saturday and Sunday, with the points also counting towards Friday's dual meet score, but will not be a factor in the outcome.
Senior Lectie Altman (Syracuse, N.Y./William Nottingham), junior Rebecca Scheffter (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) and sophomore Kristen Skroski (North Haven, Conn./Hopkins) were all double-winners for the Bison. Altman took first in both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events with times of 58.54 and 2:04.50, respectively, and led a one-two-three Bucknell sweep in the 200 back as junior Laura Goeller (Wilmington, Del./Tower High School) followed in second with a time of 2:11.43 and freshman Ally St. Claire (Silver Spring, Md.) took third in 2:13.90.
Scheffter won the 50 free in 24.79 and captured first in the 100 free with a time of 53.80. Behind Sheffter in the 50 free was senior Mary Krakowski (Erie, Pa./McDowell) in second with a time of 25.18. Krakowski earned a first place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 59.16, as well. Senior Lauren Reed (South Plainfield, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy) and junior Katherine Munson (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) completed the all-Bucknell top three in the 100 fly with times of 59.58 and 59.64, respectively.
Skroski took first in both the 200 and 500-yard freestyle events, swimming the 200 free in 1:55.97 and posting a season best for the Bison squad in the 500 free with a time of 5:10.90. Sophomore Brittany Neligan (Hempstead, N.Y.) followed in second with a time of 5:11.77 in the 500 free.
Bucknell also managed one-two-three sweeps in the 1000 free and the 100 breast. St. Claire captured the top spot in the 1000 free with a time of 10:47.54, followed by sophomore Katalin Lyons (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) in second (10:52.44) and junior Carlyn Donley (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) in third (10:55.55). Freshman Nikki Seaman (Cleveland, Ohio) won the 100 breast with a time of 1:09.18, junior Nikki Woodward (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) took second in 1:09.21 and sophomore Emily Wichryk (Darlington, Pa./Blackhawk) was third with a time of 1:09.25.
Woodward and Munson rounded out the individual winners for the Orange and Blue, with Woodward taking first in the 200 breast with a time of 2:26.25 and Munson swimming a team season-best 2:08.07 in the 200 fly.
The 200 medley relay squad of Altman, Woodward, Krakowski and Scheffter posted a time of 1:50.54 to take first in the event for the Bison.
Following Saturday's and Sunday's Black Knight Diving Invitational, Bucknell will return to action on Tuesday, January 17, when the team will travel to Hamilton, N.Y., to take on Patriot League foe Colgate at 12:00 p.m.
