LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Jennifer Margolis scored in the 54th minute to put the Bucknell in front, 2-1, but Binghamton was able to rally and defeated the Bison, 3-2 in overtime in women's soccer action on Wednesday evening. The loss dropped Bucknell to 1-4-0 on the season while the Bearcats climbed to 3-1-1.
With the game barely under way, Binghamton jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 2:29. Lauren Massey fed the ball from the left side of the goal mouth to Kelly Burnham who was unmarked in front and buried a shot into the back of the net.
Just minutes later, the Bison responded as sophomore Leslie Schulze sent a cross from down low to Lexi Shore, who completed the play by netting her first goal of the season at the 6:11 mark to tie the score at one.
Then at 53:17 into the contest, Krista Lee Gentile launched a pass down field to Margolis who carried the ball in and around Bearcats' goalkeeper Kristie Bowers, giving Bucknell a 2-1 advantage.
However, in the 81st minute, Tricia Reed drilled a shot that was initially stopped by Samantha Hecht, but the rebound came to Katie Kerrigan who sent the equalizer into the Bison goal to force an extra frame.
Kerrigan found the back of the net again in the overtime period, netting the game-winner at 91:30 from Danielle White.
Bucknell outshot Binghamton, 14-12 and held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. Bowers made five saves in net for the Bearcats, while Hecht stopped four shots for the Bison.
Bucknell continues its homestand with a match against Fairfield on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m.
