LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell field hockey team defeated the Saint Francis Red Flash 7-0 early Tuesday evening at Graham Field. The victory gives the Bison their first mark in the win column, putting the blue and orange at 1-3 overall.
Bucknell dominated Saint Francis in the first half of the game, outshooting the Red Flash by 19. The first goal of the game was scored by sophomore Kelly Hoffman at the 9:20 minute mark. Within four minutes of Hoffman's unassisted tally, four more Bison found the back of the net.
Junior Anne Lutz scored the next goal, assisted by freshman Trina Boyer (24:37). Hoffman, assisted by senior Kelly O'Brien, added another score at the 12:00 mark. Rounding out the cluster of scores was junior Alex Kyzmir, who added an unassisted goal only 13 minutes into the game. With almost seven minutes left in the first half, junior Callista Costopoulos scored off a penalty corner, assisted by Kyzmir and Lutz.
The momentum slowed down for Bucknell in the second half, as they only shot 13 times and scored two goals. Kyzmir added her second goal of the game at 17:15, assisted by junior Kate Urosevich, while freshman Lindsay Weller knocked in the final tally of the game with just over 13 minutes left to play, assisted by Kyzmir.
Junior goalkeeper Emily Groendyke pulled in five saves on the day, while senior keeper Liz Jordan recorded one.
The Bison will look to add another victory when they travel to Schenectady, N.Y. to battle Siena at 7 p.m on Saturday, Sept. 10.
