SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Bison field hockey team defeated Siena, 5-2, for their second victory of the season, on Saturday, in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The triumph extends Bucknell's win streak to two.
The first score of the match was recorded by Siena's Carly Atkinson, almost 21 minutes in the game. Less than a minute later, Bucknell countered the goal with an unassisted tally by senior Kelly O'Brien. At the end of the first half, the score was tied at 1-1.
The second half belonged to Bucknell, as it scored four goals and out shot Siena 11-1.
Junior Anne Lutz had the first Bison score of the second half, assisted by junior Alex Kyzmir. Siena refuted with a goal of their own to tie the game back up. The goal proved to be Siena's last offensive mark, as Bucknell would score three more times to ensure a victory.
Kyzmir recorded the blue and orange's number three and four goals, both assisted by freshman Amanda Faust, within three minutes of each other. The Bison's final tally was scored the same way as the first, by an unassisted shot from O'Brien.
"I thought we played hard," said head coach Heather Lewis. "Coming out from what was a difficult road trip, I was pleased with how the team bounced back in the second half after a 1-1 tie."
Kyzmir now leads Bucknell with four goals and four assists on the season, and O'Brien sits right behind her with three scores and one assist.
The Bison will look for their third win of the season when they travel to College Park, Md., to battle Stanford. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
