LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell field hockey team won for the third time in four games as it defeated Georgetown 3-2 Saturday at Graham Field. The Bison improved to 3-4, while the Hoyas fell to 1-5 this season.
Bucknell took a 2-0 lead into halftime behind goals from Alex Kyzmir and Amanda Faust. Kyzmir netted her team-high fifth goal at the 16:38 mark to stake the Bison to a 1-0 lead. She was stationed in front of the goal and took a pass from Kelly O'Brien, who was to the right of the goal, and pushed it past Hoya goalkeeper Deirdre Crovo.
Faust gave Bucknell a 2-0 lead just 6:19 before halftime when she scored off a penalty corner. Kymir took the penalty corner and passed it to Anne Lutz. Lutz gave it to Faust, who fired it from straight on into the goal.
Georgetown did close the gap to just one goal on two separate occasions in the second half, but could not draw even. Deirdre McShea scored the first goal for the Hoyas at the 48:28 mark, but O'Brien tallied her fourth goal of the season just 1:48 later. The ball bounced around between Bucknell players following a penalty corner and eventually ended up in O'Brien's possession. Positioned just to the left of the goal, she snuck it past Crovo, who had three saves.
Georgetown's Lauren Sheets scored the final goal with 14:13 remaining to cut the Bison lead to 3-2.
Liz Jordan, who now has 62 saves this season, registered seven saves in the winning effort.
Bucknell was outshot 14-12 by Georgetown, including 12-7 in the second half. The Hoyas also tallied more penalty corners with a 9-6 advantage, including 8-4 in the second half, which featured much more offensive action than the first.
Saturday's game was the first of a four-game homestand for Bucknell. It returns to the field Wednesday, Sept. 21, when it hosts Lock Haven on Graham Field at 7 p.m.
