LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bison field hockey team lost a very close and competitive game at the hands of the Lock Haven Lady Eagles, dropping Bucknell down to 4-5 overall on Wednesday evening at Graham Field. Junior Callista Costopoulos was the lone scorer for the Bison.
Costopoulous scored off a penalty corner shot with almost 10 minutes to go in the first half of the match. Assisting on the score was junior Alex Kyzmir and freshman Amanda Faust. The Bucknell tally matched the first goal of the game, scored by Lock Haven at the 12:54 mark, evening the score at 1-1 going into the second half.
Lock Haven scored their second goal of the game just under two minutes into the second half off a penalty corner shot, with Renee Kemmerer and Sarah Huber as the assistors, and Blair Wynne as the scorer. This final shot was all the Lady Eagles would need to stay on top of Bucknell for the duration of the game.
Playing spectacular defense and preventing a 3-1 loss was Faust, with a hustling defensive save in the first half of the game. Bison goalkeeper, Liz Jordan also played strong defense as she compiled 12 total saves in the game, her third-highest mark of the season.
Kyzmir's assist places her first for the blue and orange this season with 16 total points (five goals, six assists).
The Bison will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 11 a.m. at Graham Field, as they host Northwestern.
