Ithaca, N.Y. - The Bucknell field hockey team fell 3-1 in a non-conference game against the Cornell Big Red on Tuesday evening at Schoellkopf Field in Ithaca, N. Y. Junior Alex Kyzmir (Lisle, N.Y./Whitney Point) was the lone Bison to find the back of Cornell's net in the defeat.
Kyzmir scored the unassisted goal in the first half, just under 15 minutes into the game.
Bucknell was out-shot 12-4 in the first half, but a strong performance by senior goalkeeper Liz Jordan (Towson, Md./St. Paul's School) stopped nine attempts, allowed just two goals, and kept the Bison within a goal at the half, as they were down 2-1. However, Cornell was not done as the Big Red scored tally number three, just seven minutes into the second half to extend its lead to two goals.
The Bison managed to hold Cornell at three tallies and just five total shots in the remainder of the second half, but were unable to fire-up their offense as they got off four shots, two of them missing wide and the remaining two blocked by the Big Red's goalkeeper, Lizzie Goldblatt.
Jordan finished the day with 12 saves, bringing her season total up to 117 saves, with a save percentage of .796. Kyzmir is currently leading the team in total points (19), with six goals and seven assists.
Bucknell now has a record of 4-8 overall, 1-1 in conference play.
The Orange and Blue will look to bounce-back and pick up their second conference win on Saturday, Oct. 15, as they host Patriot League foe Holy Cross at 12 p.m. at Graham Field.
