HARRISONBURG, Va. - Two days after pulling off an upset over 18th-ranked James Madison, the Bucknell men's soccer team could not get on the scoreboard as it was shut out 3-0 by Towson in the final game of the James Madison Invitational at the JMU Soccer Complex. The Bison and Tigers both finished the weekend with 1-1 records.
Despite allowing three goals, all in the second half, Bucknell senior goalkeeper Adam Edwards was the bright spot for the Bison by making a career-high 14 saves to eclipse his previous high of nine against Lehigh in the 2003 Patriot League Tournament.
Sebastian Haensel led the Towson offense that fired 22 shots with a pair of goals. He got the Tigers on the scoreboard on a penalty kick 1:20 into the second half and scored the final goal of the game in the 83rd minute. In between, Pat Healy scored, with Haensel getting credited with the assist. Nino Mangione registered a pair of assists.
Bucknell was able to tally eight shots, forcing Towson goalkeeper Sean Ajifowobaje to make six saves.
"Hopefully this will help us learn how to prepare on short rest," said Bucknell head coach Brendan Nash.
Bucknell returns to action next weekend with a pair of games at the Loyola Classic. The Bison will face host Loyola (Md.) Friday, Sept. 9, at 5 p.m. Bucknell will take on Richmond Sunday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m.
