VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Bison field hockey team fell to the Villanova Wildcats, 3-1, on Friday evening in Villanova, Pa. The loss pushed Bucknell to 0-3 on the season.
Despite the loss, Bucknell played a tough match against a very competitive Villanova squad.
"I am proud of my girls," said head coach Heather Lewis. "You can't fault their effort; they played a hard and physical game against a very physical team."
The Bison's lone goal was scored by senior Kelly O'Brien, almost 11 minutes into the game. The goal was unassisted and marks her first score of the season.
At the end of the first half, the Bison were tied with the Wildcats, 1-1. Villanova took the lead with 25 minutes left to play. Bucknell gave a valiant effort, but was unable to overcome the Wildcats' strength as they scored their final goal in the last seven minutes of the match.
Leading the Bison in shots taken was junior Katie Urosevich with three. Junior Heather Rogers made one defensive save, along with sophomore Kelly Hoffman.
Once again, senior goalkeeper Liz Jordan remained tough against a very strong offense and finished the day with 14 saves and three goals allowed in 70 minutes between the posts.
The Bison have been facing very solid competition and are anticipating a strong performance when they host Saint Francis (Pa.) on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Graham Field at 6 p.m.
