ITHACA, N.Y. - Bucknell had a consistent final day at the Cornell Invitational, counting two 76s and two 77s en route to a strong third-place finish in a field of 15. The Bison entered the third and final round in fourth place but moved up a spot after shooting 306 as a team on Sunday.
St. Joseph's, which opened the tournament with an 11-under-par 277, shot 307 on Sunday and cruised to a 22-stroke victory over Niagara. The Hawks finished at 881, followed by the Purple Eagles at 903 and Bucknell at 905. The Bison finished three shots clear of fourth place Siena and four ahead of fifth-place St. Bonaventure, which defeated the Orange & Blue by one shot last week at the Bucknell Invitational.
Ben Pellicani (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) shot 76-73-77 and Charlie Waddell (Wilmette, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) shot 73-77-76 to lead the Bison contingent. Their 226 totals put them in a tie for 10th place in the individual standings.
Kyle Moran (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick Academy) was a shot behind that duo with rounds of 73-77-77, and he tied for 14th. Chas Wagner (Oakmont, Pa./Hampton) finished in 229 (79-74-76) and tied for 22nd, while Patrick Yingling (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) shot 79-74-81 and tied for 36th.
Freshman Rahul Desai (Avon, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford School) played as an individual only, and he finished in a tie for 17th place at 228 (74-77-77).
Billy Stewart of St. Joseph's started with an opening round 63 but shot 78 on Sunday and held on for a four-stroke victory over Robert Fritz of Cornell, who shot 216 (76-70-70).
Bucknell returns to action next Sunday and Monday at the St. Bonaventure Invitational.
