LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's field hockey team lost a physical match to Northwestern, 4-1, on Sunday at Graham Field, putting the Bison at 3-6 overall. Junior Callista Costopoulos played strong for the blue and orange as she was able to find the back of the net to score their lone goal.
Costopoulos suffered a head injury in the first half of the match, but bounced back into action fearlessly in the second half, as she scored off of a penalty corner shot, assisted by freshman Amanda Faust with nearly 22 minutes left to play.
The Wildcats took charge early in the game, as their first goal was scored just under two minutes of play off a penalty shot by Jill Putnam. The second and third goals of the match came within three minutes of each other, each by Holly Palin and Cassie Miller.
The Bison's goalkeeper, senior Liz Jordan, played hard between the posts as she collected 12 saves on the day, including some very impressive diving stops, in all 70 minutes of play. Jordan now has 86 saves collected on the season, with a save percentage of .796.
Costopoulos currently ranks third on the team in goals scored (3), while Faust is third in total assists (4).
Bucknell will try to snap its two game losing streak as it hosts American for the first conference match-up of the season on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 12 p.m.
