MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The Bucknell women's soccer team rolled to its third-straight victory with a 2-1 win over Robert Morris on Sunday afternoon at the North Athletic Complex. With the team's first road victory of the year, the Bison improved to 4-4-0 while the Colonials fell to 2-4-0.
After the Bison controlled much of the play in the first half, senior Margaret Emmitt served the ball into the box and, attempting to clear it, a Robert Morris defender headed the ball into the net to put Bucknell out in front, 1-0 at 28:29.
At the start of the second half, the Colonials capitalized on a corner kick opportunity to knot the score at one. Hilary Nellis headed in her third of the season off a feed from Kathryn Kirkpatrick and Angela Story 46:10 into the match.
Continued offensive pressure by the Bison later yielded the deciding goal of the contest. In the 58th minute, a cross by Jennifer Margolis deflected into the Robert Morris goal off a defender's foot, giving the Bison the 2-1 advantage. The two goals for the Bison in the game gave the team a season total of 20 with 57 points through eight matches. This surpasses the team's mark from 2004 when Bucknell managed 19 goals and 51 points in 16 games.
The Bison held an 11-9 advantage in shots over the Colonials in the match and led in corner kicks, 8-4. Junior Katie Dry made three saves for Bucknell and Jessica Onufer stopped three shots for Robert Morris. Fouls were 10-4 against the Bison.
Bucknell returns home on Tuesday, Sept. 20, to face St. Francis (Pa.) on the Varsity Soccer Field at 7 p.m.
