Bison Complete First Full Day of Competition at Bucknell Inviational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bison women's tennis team finished their first complete day of competition on Saturday evening in Lewisburg. On Friday, the majority of the scheduled matches were cancelled due to rain, so many make-up matches were played today. As of 8:30 p.m., Bucknell produced seven winning singles matches and three winning doubles, and four undefeated individuals, to move one step closer to the championships, which will be played on Sunday.
Undefeated for the Bison was Paulina Gamboa, who won her singles set 6-1, 6-1, and won her doubles set 9-8, while her partner, Ronnie Brown also won her singles match, 7-5, 7-5. Rheanna Gaskin, also undefeated for the orange and blue, went 6-1, 6-0 in her singles match over Loyola's Mallory Tarca. Gaskin, partnered with JoAnna Grossman, won her doubles match over a pair from Duquesne, 9-8.
Bucknell's final undefeated athlete of the day, Leigh Pratt, won her singles match in a tie-breaker over Sarah Thompson from Toledo. Pratt, along with her partner Camille Simonetti, advanced to the next round on a bye in flight B of doubles play.
Chelsea Mills picked up a singles win over Amy Nitch of Loyola, 6-0, 6-0. Ashley Globerman breezed over a Mt. St. Mary's player, 6-0, 6-2. Tiffany Card pulled out a tough victory over Ashley Reed from Villanova, 2-6, 6-2 (10-3).
Play will finish tonight and resume tomorrow morning, to conclude the action here at Bucknell.
