Bison Women's Tennis Finish Play at Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bison completed the final day of competition this afternoon, as they hosted the Bucknell Invitational, where Marist, Toledo, Villanova, Loyola, Duquesne, Mount St. Mary's and Pittsburgh came to compete. Bucknell's Tiffany Card went undefeated in singles during the tournament and won the championship game in Flight D.
Card defeated Ciara McDermott of Duqesne, in a come from behind victory (5-7, 6-2 (10-3)) in the main draw semi-finals to advance into the finals. In the championship match, Card defeated Toledo's Claire Smalley, 6-4, 6-4, to become the champion of the flight.
Paulina Gamboa won her first singles match of the day in the main draw semi-finals, to advance to the final match. In the finals, Gamboa was unable to tame her opponent, Jaclyn Williamson of Villanova, as she was defeated in three sets 4-6, 7-6 (11), (10-6).
Ashley Globerman advanced to the consolation finals, after defeating Duquesne's Rebecca Poole, 8-5, in the consolation semis, however the final match was cancelled.
JoAnna Grossman and Camille Simonetti each qualified to play in the back draw finals by winning their semi-final matches 7-5, 6-3 and 8-0, respectively. The two final matches were never played.
The Bucknell women will return to action on Friday, Sept. 23, at the Quinnipiac Invitational, held in Hamden, Conn. Play will conclude on Sunday, Sept. 25.
