COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Caroline Hussey pocketed three goals and an assist to lead Stanford to a 6-0 victory over Bucknell Tuesday night at the University of Maryland. The Bison, who served as hosts for the neutral site contest, had their two-game winning streak snapped and fell to 2-4.
Bucknell had collected 12 goals in its previous two outings but were limited to just four shots by the Cardinal (2-7) on Tuesday. Goalie Liz Jordan made 10 saves and allowed four goals in just over 41 minutes of action. Chyncia Smith, Trina Boyer, Callista Costopoulos and Katie Watt accounted for the team's shot total.
The two teams played more than 20 minutes of scoreless hockey before Stanford broke through with three goals in an eight-minute span. Bailey Richardson ended the deadlock with a goal on penalty corner at the 20:27 mark, and Hussey followed with two unassisted tallies five minutes apart to give the Cardinal a 3-0 halftime cushion.
Hussey assisted on Liz Robinson's goal 6:30 into the second half, then Hussey completed her hat trick with another unassisted score at 57:48. Aska Sturdevan completed the scoring on penalty corner with no time left on the clock.
Stanford outshot the Bison 24-4 and held an 8-2 edge in penalty corners.
It was the first meeting between the two teams since 1992, when the Bison and Cardinal played to a tie. Bucknell returns to action on Saturday, hosting Georgetown at 11 a.m. at Graham Field.
