Bucknell Men's Tennis Opens 2005 Fall Season at Bloomsburg Invitational

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bison men's tennis team opened their fall season today at the Bloomsburg Invitational, in Bloomsburg, Pa. Bucknell battled opponents from host Bloomsburg, along with Villanova and Binghamton.
In the doubles round, Bucknell came away with three out of the four matches played against Bloomsburg. Ira Reibeisen and Matt Pikus (8-4), Asher Salam with John Lashnits (8-0) and Dan Bednarek and Brian Cohen (8-6) all were victorious in their matches.
In the first singles round, the Bison proved to be triumphant once again, as they defeated the Wildcats in six out of the ten matches played, with only two of those wins taken into a third, tie-breaking game. Among Bucknell's victorious were Ryan Sandberg (6-0, 5-7,10-8), Lashnits (6-3, 6-1), Jon Brenner (6-2, 6-0), Matt Pikus (6-0, 6-1), Bednarek (6-2, 1-6, 10-6) and Ben Rosenstock (6-2, 6-3).
In round two, the tables were turned as the Bison were unable to stand strong against Binghamton, pulling away with only two individual wins. Winning for the blue and orange were Reibeisen, who came from behind and took the match in three sets (1-6, 6-2, 10-8), and Rosenstock (7-5, 6-4).
"Overall we are very pleased with the day's results. Our freshmen played well and everybody gained some quality matches," said assistant coach Steve Monge. "The men really stepped up in doubles and we are just so excited to get back out tomorrow."
The Bloomsburg Invitational mainly focuses on individual records and will conclude tomorrow.
