LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Jennifer Margolis and freshman Jennifer Dervarics combined for seven points as the Bucknell women's soccer team cruised to a 7-1 victory over Howard in the BU Bison's 2005 home opener on the team's new home field Tuesday afternoon. With the win, Bucknell improves to 1-1-0 on the season while Howard falls to 0-1-0.
Sophomore Krista Lee Gentile gave Bucknell an early 1-0 lead at the 1:04 mark. Margolis received the ball off a corner kick by sophomore Leslie Schulze and softly touched it to Gentile who easily sent home the Bison's first tally of the contest. The assist marked Margolis' eighth helper of her career, which currently ranks 10th on Bucknell's all-time career list.
Howard answered to tie the score at 6:51 when Allison Smith fed a pass to Lauren White who headed the ball into the top left corner of the goal.
Then in the 24th minute, Margolis snapped the 1-1 deadlock with her first tally of the season. Senior Kerry Fitz-Patrick fired the ball off Howard goalkeeper Lindsey Walton that deflected to Margolis inside the box for a quick shot into the net.
From that point on, Bucknell did not look back as the momentum titled in favor of the Bison with an own goal by Howard at 44:07. Dervarics then made it a 5-1 advantage at 47:43 as she received a pass from junior Caitlyn Kuntz and dribbled past Howard's defenders and knocked in her first score of the game.
