ISSUE, Md. - Charlie Waddell and Patrick Yingling carded 77s on Sunday to lead Bucknell to a tie for sixth place at the George Washington Invitational, which was abbreviated to 18 holes due to poor weather conditions in the Washington, D.C., area over the weekend.
With cold, wet conditions making the Swan Point Yacht & Country Club course play even longer than its posted 6,761 yards, the Bison still managed three scores in the 70s, which bettered the field average of 81.64.
Bucknell shot 314 as a team, which tied Temple for sixth place, just 11 strokes behind tournament champion Villanova. Host George Washington, IUPUI and Longwood all shot 305 to tie for second, just two shots behind the Colonials. Radford at 308 was the only other fivesome in the 25-team field to top the Bison.
Bucknell was the best of the three Patriot League teams in the field. Lehigh tied for 13th at 320, while Lafayette finished in 342 and placed 24th.
Backing up the five-over-par 77s by Waddell and Yingling were Ben Pellicani with a 79, Keita Aoki with an 81 and Tom Lane with an 85.
Colin Mahon and Jonathan Hewett of Villanova joined Raman Luthra of GW and Robby Bigley of Siena in a four-way tie for first place individually with one-over rounds of 73. Waddell and Yingling tied for 18th place.
Bucknell returns to action next Friday at the Lafayette Invitational.
