Bison Track and Field Continues Competition at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Bucknell fielded two relay teams and two individual athletes on Friday, as competition at the Penn Relays rolled on at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa. Sophomore Ann Doty was the highlight for the Bison in the field, leaping an ECAC qualifying mark of 38-6 (11.73m) in the triple jump, good for sixth place in the Women's College "Eastern" division.
The team of Sarah VandenBroek, Rehana Lanewala, Monique Boley and Lauren Bricker ran to a fourth place finish in their section of the sprint medley relay, recording a time of 4:07.11, the second-best time in school history. VandenBroek and Lanewala led off the race with two 200-meter legs, followed by Boley on the 400-meter leg and Bricker anchoring the final 800-meters. Virginia Tech won the heat with a time of 3:58.62 followed by Florida International in second (4:00.80). The Bison posted a better time than Patriot League opponent Lehigh, which ran 4:09.83 in a different section.
The men's distance medley team of Mark Caroleo, Matt Corbetta, Koran Evans and Derrin Pierret finished 13th in their heat, crossing the finish line in 10:15.04. Caroleo ran the lead-off 1200-meter leg, followed by Corbetta on the 400, Evans running the 800 leg and Pierret finishing off the race with a mile split. James Madison won the section in 9:57.11, with Manhattan in second (9:48.53). Patriot League foe Army finished eighth in the heat, clocking a time of 10:07.38.
Bricker also participated in the triple jump, finishing in 30th place in the "Eastern" section with a distance of 34-8 ¼ (10.57m).
The Penn Relays conclude on Saturday with only a few Bison athletes with competitions remaining. The remainder of the squads will compete at the Lehigh Games in Bethlehem, Pa. The event is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
