Bison Women's Track and Field Runs Over Competition at Bucknell Five-Way

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bison women's track and field team tore through the competition posting a total of 10 first place finishers at the Bucknell Five-Way on Saturday at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. The Bison women scored a total of 282 points to win the four-team competition, 159 points ahead of Robert Morris in second place. The Bucknell men finished fourth in the five-team field, tallying 85 points.
Marjorie Grap recorded a trio of top three finishes, winning the shot put with a heave of 44-3 ½. Grap notched a second place showing in the hammer, throwing a ECAC qualifying distance, a personal-best throw of 175-8, the second-best mark in Bucknell history. Angie McFarland (164-3), Liz Pendleton (158-9), and Gwen Soult (157-9), also threw the ECAC qualifying standard in the event. Grap also claimed third place in the discus with a mark of 133-5.
Beverly Rogers was another Bison winner in the field, taking the javelin field with a season-best and NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 148-7.
In the sprints, Rehana Lanewala won the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.85. Teammates Chessa Forer and Sarah VandenBroek followed in the second and third places, running times of 12.87 and 12.93, respectively. Lanewala continued her winning ways in the 200-meters, taking the event in 26.04. VandenBroek recorded another third place showing, crossing the finish line in 26.64. Monique Boley notched a second place finish in the 400-meters, clocking a time of 57.82.
Catherine Trentacoste won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.18 while Nina Reinhardt posted a third place finish, clocking a time of 15.40. Trenacoste finished second in the 400-intermediate hurdles in 1:03.21. Kat Allen (1:04.46) and Forer (1:05.27) followed in third and fourth in the event.
The Bison posted the top three finishers in the 800-meters with Christa Sawko leading the way with a time of 2:10.97. Amy Calvo crossed the line in 2:13.07, good for second place on the day, while Jen Marsh finished in third place in 2:13.14. Erin Cranmer-Hart, Jennifer Stevens, and Kerryann Branker went two-through-four in the 1,500-meters, finishing with times of 4:45.00, 4:47.21, and 4:48.80, respectively.
In the longer distances, Leanna Nastase and Katie Pfeifer provided the one-two finish in the 5,000-meter run as Nastase won the race in 18:09.02 and Pfeifer followed in second in 18:23.62. Kelly Raffety, Christy Totten and Rebecca Pierotti finished in second through fourth places in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Raffety's time of 11:31.02 is the second-best time in the Bison record books.
In the jumps, Ann Doty and Lauren Bricker went one-two in the triple jump with Doty recording a leap of 38-3 ½, and Bricker sailing to a distance of 37-0 ½. Denise Manero finished third in the high jump, clearing a height of 5-1. Ashley Curry notched a second place performance in the pole vault, vaulting over the bar at 10-11 ¾.
The Bison were also tough in the relays, winning the 4x400 in a season-best time of 3:52.27, and taking the 4x800 in 9:18.41.
Matt Forys was the lone winner in men's action, winning the steeplechase in 9:20.74. Kevin Brown and Ryan Delaney finished third and fourth in the race, running times of 9:45.79 and 9:46.48, respectively.
The Bison men had a good day in the distances, with Kevin Fortkiewicz and Dan Lounsbury grabbing second and third place honors in the 5,000 with Fortkiewicz finishing in 15:09.63 and Lounsbury clocking a 15:15.81. Mark Caroleo had a good finish in the 1,500, crossing the line in 3:55.35, good for fourth place.
Josh Kaehler and Dan Frake led the Bison in the throws, both posting third place finishes. Kaehler was third in the javelin with a toss of 176-3, while Frake placed third in the hammer with an IC4A qualifying mark of 175-9.
On the track, Matt Corbetta was fourth in the 200, clocking a time of 22.66. Ryan Whitfield also notched a fourth place showing, finishing the 400 hurdles in 56.67. Rhode Island won the men's competition with a total score of 178.
Both Bison teams will head to Philadelphia next week for the Penn Relays. Competition begins on Thursday, April 28 and runs through Saturday, April 30. Some Bucknell athletes will also compete at the Lehigh Games in Bethlehem, Pa., also on April 30.
