BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Amy Chamberlain scored her third goal of the day with 1:44 left to break a tie and propel Lehigh to a 9-7 victory over Bucknell in Patriot League women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The Bison (4-10, 2-3) could have clinched a Patriot League Tournament berth with a win over Lehigh (5-9, 2-3), instead they fell into a fourth-place tie with Lehigh and will have to win at American next Saturday and hope the Mountain Hawks lose to 0-11 Lafayette.
Katie Edge, Andrea Paraud and Amy Lee all scored twice for Bucknell, which outshot Lehigh 32-26. The Bison trailed 4-3 at the half but scored the first three goals of the second period to take the lead. Paraud unassisted tally with 14:19 left in the game gave Bucknell a 6-4 lead.
But Lehigh stormed back, scoring three straight and five of the last six goals of the game. Chamberlain, the team's leading goal producer with 33 coming in, was shut out of the scoring column by the Bison defense for the first 53 minutes of the game, but she scored the tying and go-ahead goals just 1:18 apart to give the Mountain Hawks a 7-6 lead.
Paraud tied it again on a free position shot with 2:32 to play, but Chamberlain scored her third in a row for Lehigh, also on a free position attempt less than a minute later. Sarah Starsoneck scored as the final buzzer sounded to make the final 9-7.
Bucknell saw its eight-game winning streak against Lehigh come to an end. Lizzy McDaniel had a strong afternoon in goal, finishing with 12 saves, one shy of her season high. Brittany Besler made eight stops for Lehigh, which owned a 36-19 edge in ground balls and a 12-5 advantage in draw controls.
The Bison play their final home game of the season on Wednesday against St. Bonaventure, then they wrap up the regular season at American next Saturday 1 p.m.
