ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Kyle Moran shot a 3-over-par 74 and Bucknell finished with a solid 305 as a team to gain a share of fifth place after the first of two rounds of the Navy Invitational on Saturday. The Bison are also first among the four Patriot League teams in the field.
Bucknell is off to a strong start despite a rare off day from its No. 1 player, Charlie Waddell, whose 81 was not counted. Ben Pellicani shot 75 and Keita Aoki 76, while Tom Lane carded an 80. Moran stands in 11th place in the individual standings, while Pellicani, whose back-nine 34 was third-best in the field, is also in the top 20 at 18th.
Division III power Guilford shot 291 to take the first-round lead by seven strokes over George Washington. St. Bonaventure and Millersville are tied for third at 304, while Bucknell, Boston College and Loyola are all just a shot back at 305. Host Navy is another stoke back at 306, while Temple (309), Seton Hall (310) and Villanova (310) round out the top 10.
Lehigh (320) and Lafayette (322) are also representing the Patriot League in the field. Bucknell and Navy are expected to be two contenders for the Patriot League Championship, which takes place next weekend at the Bucknell Golf Club.
Colin Clark of Guilford shot a 2-under 69 to take the individual lead. Billy Mullen of Temple is one shot behind.
The tournament concludes on Sunday.
