Bison Track and Field Completes Day One of Home Opener

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Sophomore Christa Sawko shattered the Bucknell 1,500-meter record on Friday night, running a blazing time of 4:32.96, at the Bison Outdoor Classic, held at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium in Lewisburg, Pa. Sawko, who reached the ECAC standard in the event, finished third overall in the invitational field, just ahead of teammate Jen Marsh in fourth place in 4:35.67.
Several Bison fared well in Friday night's Distance Carnival portion of the meet, with Erin Cranmer-Hart finishing 11th in the women's 5,000-meters in 17:36.80, the best time by a Bison this season. Kevin Brown notched the highest finish on the men's side, placing seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 9:27.22.
Sean McCarthy ran well in the 10,000-meters, finishing the grueling race in 11th place in 31:19, an IC4A qualifying mark. Dan Lounsbury represented the Bison men in the men's 5,000, clocking a time of 14:50.64, good for 28th place.
The action continues tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. Many more Bison will be competing on Saturday, as only the long distance events and parts of the heptathlon and decathlon were contested on Friday night.
