Frake Records Highest Bison Finish With Second Place Effort at Bison Outdoor Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Tolu Fayanjuola, Beverly Rogers and Christa Sawko each grabbed a first place finish on Saturday at the Bison Outdoor Classic at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium, in Lewisburg, Pa. Both the men's and women's track and field squads finished up the two day competition that drew over 30 teams to Lewisburg.
The Bison women had a stellar day in the 800-meters, with Sawko taking top honors in 2:10.76. Lauren Bricker ran a huge outdoor personal-best, finishing second in 2:12.36. Her race matched the third-best performance in the Bison record books. Offeibia Hanson-Hall also had a good run, placing seventh in 2:17.11, just ahead of Monique Boley in tenth in 2:17.45.
Fayanjuola won the long jump with a season-best leap of 18-6.50 (5.65m). Ann Doty placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 37-07.25 (11.46m). Denise Manero also had a commendable showing in the jumps, clearing 5-3 in the high jump, tying for third place.
Rogers was the top finisher in the throws with a first place showing in the javelin with a mark of 135-08 (41.35m). Marjorie Grap had a trio of top ten performances, placing fourth in the shot put with a heave of 44-2.50 (13.47m) and recording a sixth place finish in the hammer with a mark of 167-0 (50.89m). Grap's highest finish was third in the discus with a throw of 142-03 (43.35m).
Melanie Buzcko clocked a personal-best time in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing second in 14.67, the second-best time in Bucknell history. Catherine Trentacoste finished seventh in the event in 15.27. Trentacoste also finished third in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles, crossing the finish line in 1:03.23, the sixth-best time on the Bison top ten list.
In the sprints, Amy Calvo registered the highest finish, placing third in the 400-meters in a season-best time of 58.27. Fayanjuola also added a third place finish, running a season-best time of 12.34. Rehana Lanewala posted a sixth place finish in the 200-meters, also running a season-best mark of 25.80. Competing in the sprints, jumps, and throws, Nina Reinhardt finished fourth in the heptathlon with a total tally of 4216.
Dan Frake recorded the highest Bison finish on the men's side, throwing a distance of 173-01 (52.76m) to place second in the hammer. Josh Kaehler also had a good day in the throws, heaving a season-best mark of 189-01 (57.64m) in the javelin, good for sixth place.
Kevin Brown was the highest finisher in a track event, clocking a time of 3:58.84 for fourth place in the 1,500-meters. Mark Caroleo notched a sixth place finish in the 800, crossing the line in 1:55.64, the best time by a Bison this season. Tyler Palumbo posted a top ten finish in the field, placing tenth in the long jump with a season-best leap of 21-05.25.
The Bison will be back in action at Mathewson-Memorial Stadium next weekend as they host the Bucknell Five-Way on April 23.
