LEWISBURG, Pa. - Newly crowned Bucknell lacrosse scoring king Chris Cara (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) was named the Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday. Cara scored five points in each of Bucknell's two victories last week and now has a national-best 40 points in seven games.
In Tuesday's narrow 8-7 win at Penn, Cara tallied two goals and three assists, then he added a goal and four assists in Saturday's 14-2 rout of Patriot League rival Lafayette. The 10 points last week give him 223 for his career, three better than Pete von Hoffmann's previous Bucknell record, set from 1976-79.
Cara has 18 goals and 22 assists on the season. In addition to owning the Bucknell career scoring record, Cara is now just 15 points away from the Patriot League mark, held by former Army star Tim Pearson.
Cara is now just 15 assists shy of von Hoffmann's Bison record of 138. The goal at Lafayette on Saturday was also the 100th of Cara's career, making him only the third Bucknell player ever to reach that milestone.
The Bison, ranked 15th nationally this week, are 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the Patriot League heading into Saturday's home league game with Lehigh.
