LEWISBURG, Pa. - Buoyed by an 8-7 overtime victory over second-ranked Navy on Saturday, the Bucknell men's lacrosse team is ranked 18th in this week's Inside Lacrosse media poll as well as the STX/Geico USILA Coaches Poll. Senior attack Patrick Christensen (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken), whose sudden-death extra-man goal completed a hat trick and sunk the Midshipmen, was honored by Inside Lacrosse as the national player of the week.
Christensen, who is coming off a 38-goal season, upped his 2005 total to seven goals, good for a tie for second on the team. His three-goal performance on Saturday helped Bucknell defeat its highest-ranked foe in school history.
Christensen, who also picked up five ground balls in the game, joins Navy's Billy Looney and Maryland's Harry Alford as national players of the week.
Johns Hopkins remained in the top spot in the media poll this week, with Virginia, Duke, Maryland and Georgetown rounding out the top five. Navy slipped to No. 7. At No. 18, the Bison nosed out Dartmouth and Penn State.
The top five in the coaches poll was identical.
Now 2-1 on the season, the Bison host yet another top-10 team on Tuesday when Maryland visits Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium for a 3 p.m. start.
