NEW YORK, N.Y. - Melanie Buczko bettered her chances of competing at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday after pole vaulting over a height of 13-5 1/4 (4.10-meters) at the NYU FasTrack Invitational in New York City. Buczko's leap is currently tied for the ninth-best jump in the nation as well as a personal-best and a Bucknell record. The leap improves her previous best by over five inches and is an NCAA provisional mark.
Teammate Angie Hall also achieved a personal-best clearing a height of 12-3 ½ (3.75-meters). The height was Hall's best indoor performance by 3 ½ inches. The Bison duo swept the field with a one-two finish in the event.
Senior Tolu Fayanjuola finished second in the long jump field with a leap of 18-7 ¼. Other Bison competitors included Amy Calvo in the 400 (58.57), Matt Bonelli in the 400 (52.10), and Drew Folk in the high jump (6-5).
The Bison will be back in action at the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Boston, Mass., on March 5-6. Bucknell athletes who have reached the conference's qualifying standards will be eligible to compete.
