Bison Women's Tennis Picks Up Win in First Dual Match of the Season

HAMDEN, Conn. - Junior Rheanna Gaskin won a third-set tie-break in five singles to secure the 4-3 victory over Quinnipiac in the first dual-match of the season for the Bison women's tennis team, Saturday in Hamden, Conn. Gaskin came back from a set down to defeat Katherine Ehle of Quinnipiac, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (3).
After falling in the number one and two singles matches of the day, the Bison showed the depth of their line-up by battling back with four wins in the three through six singles spots. Tanya Sichko earned a victory in three singles upending Quinnipiac's Amanda Petruzzi, 6-4, 7-5. Daniella Shtemberg followed up defeating Liz Axler, 6-4, 6-1, in four singles.
Chelsea Mills earned another Bison victory in six singles winning without difficulty over Amy Sarrazin, 6-1, 6-2. Mills also combined with Gaskin for the lone Bison doubles victory on the day. The Bison duo took out Sarrazin and Danielle Rodriguez at three doubles, 8-3.
The Bison women will be in action again next Saturday when they travel to Olean, N.Y. to take on St. Bonaventure. The match is schedule for 12 p.m. on Feb. 19.
