LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bison thrower Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) was named the Patriot League "Field Athlete of the Week" for her weekend performances at the Penn State National Open and the Bison Open. The award is Grap's second PL honor of the season.
Grap, the current school record holder in the 20-pound weight throw, began her weekend at Penn State on Friday where she placed sixth in the weight with a toss of 55 feet, seven inches. Grap's sixth place performance was especially impressive given the outstanding field in which the top four competitors met the NCAA provisional standard in the event.
Back in Lewisburg on Saturday, Grap grabbed a victory in the weight with a throw of 54-1. Grap is undefeated in the weight during home competitions with a perfect 4-0 record. She also notched a runner-up showing in the shot put with a heave of 43-10 ¾.
Grap's first PL nod came during the week of Jan. 11, after earning a double victory in the throwing events as well as receiving "Field Athlete of the Meet" honors at the Gulden Relays on Jan. 8. Grap's second award is the fourth PL honor of the season for the Bison with fellow sophomores Melanie Buczko and Christa Sawko both garnering PL recognition last week.
The Bucknell men's and women's track and field teams will be in action this Saturday at the Kent State Invitational in Kent, Ohio. The Bison will be back at home for the Bucknell Winter Classic on Feb. 12.
