LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell sophomore guard Kesha Champion (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) was named the Patriot League Player of the Week in women's basketball earlier this week for her performance in the Bison's 62-57 win at Cornell last week.
Champion scored 12 points, equaled her career high with seven rebounds and dished out five assists to fall one shy of tying her career high in that category as she played 37 minutes against the Big Red. She also added two steals as she started her 37th consecutive game.
On the season, Champion is second on the team in scoring at 11.2 points per game, and has netted double figures five times in the last six games. She is averaging 3.3 rebounds per game, but is pulling in nearly 5.3 per game over the last four contests. Champion leads the squad in assists with 23 and has a team-high 12 steals.
A member of the 2004-05 Patriot League All-Rookie Team, Champion is the first Bison to be named Patriot League Player of the Week since Desire Almind March 1, 2004. Since that time Bucknell has had five different players earn Rookie of the Week plaudits, including Champion last year.
Bucknell (5-4) will aim for its fourth consecutive victory Wednesday, Dec. 28, when it faces Buffalo (4-4) at 5 p.m. The Bison last won four games in a row in December 2003.
