Bucknell Men's Swimming and Diving Kicks off 2005 Season with Bucknell Damon's Sprint Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's swimming and diving squad kicked off the 2005 season with a solid outing at its own Bucknell Damon's Sprint Invitational on Saturday in Kinney Natatorium. The Bison competed against American, La Salle and Villanova and came away with three individual and two relay wins in the meet.
Senior Todd Bauer (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area), junior Ian Rawhauser (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and sophomore Bradford Bennett (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) all claimed first place finishes for Bucknell in Saturday's competition. Bauer took first in the 500 free in 4:50.29, Rawhauser captured the top spot in the 200 free with a time of 1:46.34 and Bennett won the 50 breast with a time of 27.82. Rawhauser also turned in a third place finish in the 50 free with a time of 22.15.
Sophomore Grant Steadman (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) was the runner-up in the 50 free, posting time of 22.09, while classmate John Peterman (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) took second in the 100 free in 48.40.
Freshman Mark Kawczenski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) performed strong in his collegiate debut with the Bison, collecting third place times of 25.50 and 54.50 in the 50 and 100 backstroke events. Senior William Schilling (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) finished third in two events as well, with a time of 28.04 in the 50-yard breaststroke and a time of 1:00.39 in the 100 breast.
Senior diver Adam Freeman (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) recorded marks of 296.55 and 277.85, good for second place in the one-meter and three-meter dives, respectively.
Bucknell swept the top two spots in the 400 medley relay and captured top honors in the 400 free relay. The team of Kawczenski, Bennett, junior Matt Crandell (Winchester, Va./John Handley) and Rawhauser came in first in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:35.80, followed by senior Mark Kretzer (Northport, N.Y./Harborfields), Schilling, Steadman, and Peterman in second with a time of 3:36.14. The squad of Steadman, Peterman, Bennett and Rawhauser won the 400 free relay in 3:14.96 and Kawczenski, Bennett, Steadman and Peterman were second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:37.78
Bucknell returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 12, with a double dual meet against Patriot League opponents Navy and Lafayette in Kinney Natatorium beginning at 2 p.m.
