Bucknell Women's Swimming and Diving Captures Pair of Patriot League Wins Over Lafayette and Navy

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's swimming and diving team came away with two victories in its first dual meet of the season, dominating Lafayette, 210-89 and downing Navy 155-143. The Bison captured the top spot in four individual events and one relay in the meet.
Junior Rebecca Scheffter (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) won both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events with times of 24.40 and 53.14, respectively. She also helped Bucknell to a first place finish in the 200 free relay and a second place showing in the 200 medley relay. The team of freshman Susan Horstmann (Havertown, Pa.), senior Mary Krakowski (Erie, Pa./McDowell), senior Lauren Reed (South Plainfield, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy) along with Scheffter, won the 200 free relay in 1:38.85, good for 10th all-time in the Bucknell record book. Senior Lectie Altman (Syracuse, N.Y./William Nottingham), junior Nikki Woodward (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow), Krakowski and Scheffter also cracked into the program top-10 list for the 200 medley relay with their second place time of 1:48.93, which ties the 10th-best mark in program history.
Altman was an individual winner in the 200 back with a time of 2:04.57 and took second in the 100 back in 58.96. Junior Katherine Munson (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) was the top finisher in the 100 fly with a time of 59.23 and was the runner-up in the 200 fly with a time of 2:09.25.
Woodward broke into the Bucknell all-time top-10 list for the 100 breaststroke as her time of 1:08.63 landed her in ninth all-time and second in the meet for the event. She also placed second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:25.13.
Junior Laura Goeller (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill School) had a strong showing in the meet as well, taking third in both the 200 back and 200 IM with times of 2:10.82 and 2:10.28, while finishing fourth in the 100 back in 1:01.38.
The Bison will next play host to the Bucknell Trials/Finals Invitational on Nov. 19 and 20, with the trials beginning at 10 a.m. and the finals at 5 p.m. on each day of the meet.
