LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior guard Lindsey Hollobaugh (Loganton, Pa./Central Mountain) has been selected to the preseason All-Patriot League women's basketball team for the second straight year, the Patriot League office announced Tuesday. In addition, the Bison were picked fourth in a preseason poll of head coaches and sports information directors.
Hollobaugh, who led Bucknell in scoring and was third in the Patriot League with 14.9 points per game, was joined on the preseason all-league team by Army's Cara Enright, Colgate's Megan Ballard, Holy Cross' Brittany Keil and Lehigh's Sara Ellis. Ellis was selected as the Preseason Player of the Year.
Last year Hollobaugh was the lone non-senior on the preseason all-league squad, but this year's group is younger with Ballard the only senior. Hollobaugh, Keil and Ellis are juniors, while Enright is just a sophomore. Hollobaugh is joined by Ellis and Enright, fellow Second Team All-Patriot League selections last year, as the only players honored following the 2004-05 campaign that return this year.
Through two years, Hollobaugh, who was the 2004 Patriot League Rookie of the Year, has tallied 899 points, the third-highest two-year total in Bucknell history. Her 15.8 points per game career scoring average ranks fourth in Bison history. In 57 career games Hollobaugh, who was elected team co-captain this year, has reached double figures in points 50 times. In 2004-05, she reached the 20-point plateau three times, including scoring a season-high 27 points against Fairleigh Dickinson Jan. 17. A durable player, Hollobaugh averaged 36.9 minutes per game last year and was on the court all 40 minutes 11 times.
Along with her scoring prowess, Hollobaugh finished second on the team in rebounding from her guard position with 5.1 per game last year. The 5'9" guard also finished second on the squad with 71 assists. She also completed her sophomore campaign third in the Patriot League in free throw shooting (.806) and 12th in field goal percentage (.417).
In the preseason poll, Bucknell was chosen to finish fourth, three positions higher than it finished the season in last year. The last time the Bison were chosen as high as fourth in the preseason poll was prior to the 2002-03 campaign when they were picked second and earned three first-place votes. Bucknell was awarded one first-place vote this year, its first since 2002-03.
Holy Cross, the defending champion and Patriot League representative in the NCAA Tournament last year, is forecasted to finish first with 94 points and 11 first-place votes. Lehigh was awarded just one first-place vote, but edged out Army, which garnered three first-place votes, for second place, 76-73. Bucknell picked up the final first-place vote and tallied 64 points in the voting. American (44 points), Navy (42), Colgate (39) and Lafayette (16) rounded out the voting.
The Bison are coming off a season in which they posted a 10-18 overall record and a 4-10 mark in Patriot League play. They return four of their top six scorers and ninth-year head coach Kathy Fedorjaka welcomes a talented group of five newcomers to the fold.
Bucknell opens its 2005-06 season Friday, Nov. 18, at Stony Brook. Its first home contest is Tuesday, Nov. 22, against Coppin State. The Bison are schedule to play five games in the first 10 days of the season.
