LEWISBURG, Pa. - Just 90 minutes after defeating No. 12 Princeton for the first time since 1998, the Bucknell men's water polo team squared off against Salem International and completed a perfect day with an 8-4 victory over the Tigers Sunday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium.
Salem International jumped out to a 3-1 lead early in the second quarter, but senior captain Brad Roslyn (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter) closed the gap to 3-2 with 5:07 remaining before halftime. That goal started a streak of seven straight for the Bison as they held the Tigers without a goal until Vladimir Lazic tallied his second of the game with 1:58 remaining. It was the first goal for Salem International since Lazic scored his first goal 18:31 earlier.
Roslyn was joined in the scoring column by Mark Masterson (Kihei, Hawaii/Marin), who tallied a team-high two goals, Sean Robinson (San Marino, Calif./San Marino), who netted his first goal of the season, Jason Rechel (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), Nick Ferring (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day), Kyle Roslyn (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter) and Josh Sunday (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley). Ferring added two assists to go along with his one goal to equal Masterson, who registered one assist, for the team lead in points with three. Masterson leads the team with 46 points this year after tallying three in both games Sunday.
Senior Trevor Mullins (Orinda, Calif./Palo Alto), who had seven saves against Princeton earlier in the day, stopped seven against Salem International to bring his season total to 145, and his career tally to 603. That figure ranks fifth on the Bison career chart.
With the two victories Sunday, Bucknell improved to 8-12 overall and 4-1 in Southern Division league play.
The Bison will continue league play and will attempt to extend their three-game winning streak in a rare Tuesday night affair at Princeton Oct. 11. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start at DeNunzio Pool.
