NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Freshman Deirdre Moran (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) posted her first collegiate top-20 finish, but the Bucknell women's golf squad struggled to a team total of 341 on Sunday and finished in ninth place at the Yale Invitational.
Moran followed her opening-round 77 with an 82 on Sunday and finished in a tie for 19th place. Eight of the 10 teams in the field saw their scores rise from the first round to the second, but Bison junior Teri Schlang (Albany, N.Y./Stratton Mountain School) was one of the few competitors to lower her score on Sunday. Schlang carded an 81 after shooting 83 on Saturday and finished tied for 29th.
Also for Bucknell, Emily Chiodo (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) shot 87-89, Amy Loughney (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) 89-89, and Laura Ashpole (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) 91-95. Kathryn Batchelor (Trenton, N.J./Princeton Day School), playing as an individual, mustered Bucknell's third-best individual score with rounds of 82-87.
Rollins College claimed four of the top five finishers in the field and ran away with the team title. Rollins shot 290-303 for a 36-hole total of 593. Yale was second at 614, followed by Columbia (637), Georgetown (637), Harvard (637), St. John's (640), Brown (648), Dartmouth (655), Bucknell (677) and Penn (685).
Charlotte Campbell's rounds of 69 and 74 helped her to a six-shot victory over Yale's Ellie Brophy and Rollins' Mariana DeBiase and Marie-Pierre Bernier.
Next weekend the Bison host their annual invitational tournament at Bucknell Golf Club.
