Bucknell Men's Tennis Wraps Up Action at Quinnipiac Invitational

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Bucknell men's tennis team wrapped up competition at the Quinnipiac Invitational on Sunday. Sophomore Brian Cohen (Potomac Md./Thomas Sprigg Wootton) and freshman Sidharth Makkar (Queens, N.Y./Bronx School of Science) were the lone winners on the day for the Bison, both advancing to the Flight "D" final.
In Flight "D" semifinals action, Makkar defeated Quinnipiac's Thomas Curran in straight sets, 6-3 and 6-4. In the other "D" semifinal, Cohen defeated Alex Altman of Quinnipiac, 4-6, 6-4, 10-5, setting up an all-Bucknell final in which Makkar defeated Cohen, 7-5, 4-6, 10-7.
Freshmen Daniel Bednarek (Haworth, N.J./Bergen Catholic) and Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) both competed in the semifinal round of "C" singles, but suffered losses in both of their matches. Bednarek fell to Goldy Sherrill of Quinnipiac, 4-6, 6-4, 10-5, while Brenner dropped his match to Matthew Chiricosta of Fairfield, 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles action, the pair of John Lashnits (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greely) and Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) suffered a 9-7 setback to Quinnipiac's Stefano Salvatore and Sherrill.
Bucknell will return to action in two weeks, Oct. 21-23, at the ITA Regional in Hanover, N.H.
