Bucknell Field Hockey Team Defeats Holy Cross in Come from Behind, Overtime Victory, 3-2

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell field hockey team defeated Patriot League rival Holy Cross 3-2 in overtime after being down 2-0 in the first 14 minutes of the game this afternoon at Graham Field in Lewisburg, Pa. Senior goalkeeper Liz Jordan (Towson, Md./St. Paul's) compiled 11 saves in the second half to keep the Crusaders scoreless going into overtime, while freshman Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./West Chester East) scored the game winning goal off a penalty corner shot. The victory puts the Orange and Blue at 5-8 overall, 2-1 in the PL.
Holy Cross took an early 1-0 lead as Tara Welch received a pass from Lauren Coletta and found an open Bison net, just under 10 minutes into the game. The Crusaders attacked again within a minute of their first goal as Coletta pushed in an assist from Jenna Cook.
Bucknell stopped the Holy Cross offense for the remainder of the half, and the game was turned around as the Bison fought back and scored two goals to even the score at 2-2 going into halftime. Faust scored the first Orange and Blue goal off a penalty corner shot, with assists from juniors Anne Lutz (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) and Alex Kyzmir (Lisle, N.Y/Whitney Point), 20 minutes, seven seconds into the game. Junior Katie Urosevich (Lewisburg,Pa./Lewisburg) scored Bucknell's second tally, with just under five minutes left to play in the first half, from a pass by freshman Jacquie Kataneksza (Harara, Zimbabwe/Arundel School).
Jordan compiled two saves in the first half, and faced 20 Holy Cross shots in the second half, 11 of which were on goal, yet still managed to shut the Crusaders down and keep both teams even at two goals a piece.
Faust took a penalty corner shot from a pass by Urosevich, and found the back of the Crusader net, to win the game in the sudden-death overtime situation.
Jordan finished the day with 14 saves, allowing just two goals, for a save percentage of .875. She currently sits among the nation's leaders with 131 total saves on the season.
Faust is second for the Orange and Blue in total offense, with five goals and five assists. She currently is leading Bucknell with six defensive saves.
The Bison will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 18, against a very competitive Penn State. The game will be played in State College, Pa., and is set to start at 7 p.m.
