LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell field hockey fought hard against No. 4 American on Saturday afternoon at Graham Field in the first Patriot League match-up for the Bison. The Blue and Orange were on top of the Eagles at the half, 1-0, but were unable to control the lead as American came back to score three goals in the second half, handing Bucknell a 3-1 defeat and its first conference loss, pushing the squad to a record of 3-7 overall (0-1, PL).
The Blue and Orange took advantage of a slow-starting American team and came out fighting hard in the first half of the match, as every Bison on the field played sharp and aggressive. With 5:22 minutes left to play, freshman Steph Graf (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks East) scored off a pass from freshman Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West), for her first tally of the season. Senior goal keeper Liz Jordan (Towson, Md./St. Paul's School) was able to shut out the Eagles in the first 35 minutes of play, as she collected seven saves.
Bucknell's energy ran out, as American started to play a quicker second half. Scoring two goals for the Eagles was Javiera Villagra, with both assists attributed to Camila Infante. Infante scored the final goal of the game, with just over 15 minutes left to play.
Jordan finished the day with 13 total saves, giving her a season total of 99 saves, with a save percentage of .798.
The Bison will look to build from today's efforts as they travel to Hamilton, N.Y., to battle the Patriot League's Colgate. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
