Bucknell Swimming and Diving Dominates Colgate in Patriot League Action

LEWISBURG, Pa. - In their second competition of the week, the Bucknell swimming and diving teams defeated Colgate in both men's and women's action Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison men defeated the Raiders by a score of 181-110 while the Bison women were equally as impressive winning the meet 178-117. Both Bison squads won easily taking 12 of 16 events on the day.
Rebecca Scheffter, Jamie Flick, Katherine Munson and Kristen Skroski led the way for the Bison women, each winning two individual events The Bison were especially impressive in the 500-yard freestyle taking the top four places in the event. Bucknell also swam in dominate fashion in 100 and 200-yard backstroke, 200 butterfly and 50 free taking the top three spots in each event.
Scheffter took the 50 and 100 free races with times of 24.64 seconds in the 50 and 53.99 in the 100. Flick won both breaststroke events winning the 100 in 1:05.58 and the 200 in 2:24.14. Munson dominated the 200 back winning by over five seconds with a time of 2:10.55. Munson also won the 200 fly with a time of 2:09.08, the seventh best time in Bison history. Skroski continued her impressive freshman campaign winning the 200 free in 1:58.07 and the 500 free in 5:13.63.
Other individual event winners included: Katalin Lyons in the 1000 free, Alison Faux in the 100 back and Mary Krakowski in the 100 fly.
Colgate's Jen Busby won both the one and three-meter dives with Bucknell's Erika Mannix finishing second in both events. Mannix's score of 258.00 in the three-meter tied the school record in the event while her tally of 242.54 in the one-meter sets a new school record. This is the second school-record breaking performance of the year for Mannix.
The Bison 200 medley relay team also registered a top-ten performance. The team of Faux, Flick, Krakowski and Scheffter clocked a time of 1:48.05, the sixth-best mark in the Bucknell archives. Emily Wichryk's time of 1:08.22 in the 100 breast is the seventh-best time on the Bison top-ten list and good for third place on the day.
On the men's side, Ian Rawhauser, William Schillling, Todd Bauer and Matt Crandell each picked up two individual wins on the day. The men impressed in the freestyle events taking the top two spots in the 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 free.
Rawhauser earned victories in both the 100 and 200 back clocking times of 53.98 and 1:58.84. Schilling was the winner of both breaststroke events, winning the 100 in 59.88 and 2:10.81. Bauer cruised to wins in both distance freestyle races, clocking 4:49.95 in the 500 and 1000 in 9:57.89. Crandell was a double winner in the butterfly races taking the 100 in 54.05 and the 200 in 1:59.93.
Other individual event winners included: John Hoffman in the 200 free, Jake Thieman in the 50 free, and John Peterman in the 100 free. The team of Rawhauser, Brad Bennett, Brian Cole and Peterman combined to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:37.78.
Adam Freeman placed second in the one-meter dive tallying a score of 297.52, moving him to second on the Bucknell all-time best list. Jake Thompson scored 267.60 in the three-meter dive, the mark is the sixth best in Bison history. Thompson placed second in the event. Colgate's Lane Ellis took first place in both diving events.
Bison athletes produced the top time in every swimming event but did not receive first place honors in the final two events as the Bucknell swimmers were moved to exhibition, non-scoring status.
Both Bison squads will travel to New York, N.Y., next weekend to square off against Columbia of the Ivy League. The men's contest is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 22, beginning at 2 p.m., while the Bison women will compete on Sunday, Jan. 23, also with a 2 p.m. start time.
