LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the third time in four games the Bucknell field hockey team held its opponent to one goal or less, but dropped a 1-0 non-league decision to La Salle Tuesday evening at rainy Graham Field. The Bison fell to 4-6, while the Explorers improved to 4-6.
La Salle scored the only goal of the contest five minutes into the second half when Emily Simone found Lindsey Tyler in a crowd in front of the goal. Tyler redirected the pass to score her first goal of the season.
Bucknell, which outshot the Explorers 13-10 and had 11 penalty corners to La Salle's six, had a number of opportunities at the net, but could not convert as the Explorers' goalie, Colleen Bolger, made eight saves. Bison goalie Liz Jordan, who made 24 saves versus American over the weekend, stopped five shots to bring her season total to 76.
Bucknell did have a couple of opportunities for the equalizing score in the final two minutes, but Bolger came out of the net to kick a pair of loose balls away before Bison forwards Kelly O'Brien and Alex Kyzmir had a chance to corral them and attempt shots.
The Bison return to action Saturday afternoon against Colgate when they return to Patriot League play. The game is slated for a 12 p.m. start at Graham Field.
