PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Bucknell men's soccer team scored a season-high three goals, but it was not enough as La Salle edged the Bison by a 4-3 score Wednesday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium. Bucknell fell to 0-3-1 on the campaign, while the Explorers improved to 3-3-0.
The Bison took their first lead (3-2) of the high-scoring game on sophomore Andrew Loia's first career goal in the 54th minute, but the defense allowed La Salle to answer less than two minutes later when Andrew Perez scored his second goal of the contest to knot the score at 3-3. Scott Golden, who netted the Explorers' first goal of the match in the 25th minute, tallied the game winner in the 77th minute.
After Golden opened the scoring in the first half, Bucknell senior co-captain Ori Adrabi tied the game just 38 seconds later when he took a pass from freshman Corey Curnutte and found the back of the net. After a goal from Perez late in the first half, La Salle held a 2-1 lead at intermission.
That margin did not hold for long though, as senior Jonathan Hemmert, who was later credited with an assist on Loia's goal, scored for the second time this season just 1:37 into the second half. Loia followed with his goal to close out the scoring for the Bison.
Junior Adam Edwards went the distance in goal and made four saves in the rainy conditions.
Bucknell attempted 13 shots to the Explorers' 16, while corner kicks were equal at five apiece.
The Bison open their home schedule Sunday afternoon, Sept. 19, against James Madison at West Fields. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
