LEWISBURG, Pa. - Monmouth's Katie Levy scored with 6:52 left in overtime to give the Hawks a 3-2 victory over Bucknell in field hockey action at Graham Field Saturday afternoon. Stephanie Cabral and Jenni Turner netted goals for the Bison, who fell to 2-3 on the season.
Levy, a senior, recorded the game-winning goal when she forced Bucknell goalie Liz Jordan to come out of the net at her. Jordan lost her footing and Levy was able to find the empty net from her position on the right side of the field.
Bucknell held a 2-1 lead in the contest until the Hawks' Annie LoPresti scored the equalizer with just 5:20 left in regulation. The Bison had taken the lead nearly 10 minutes earlier when Turner took a pass from Carli Cataldo, who was positioned near the right edge of the goal, and beat Monmouth's goalie, Carrie Colbert.
Cabral scored her goal with 14:31 remaining in the first half to tie the score at 1-1. The Hawks had gotten on the board first when Janine McMillin tallied the first goal of the game five minutes into the contest.
Bucknell outshot Monmouth by a 17-12 margin and had 14 penalty corners compared to the Hawks' three. In goal, Jordan stopped eight shots while Colbert made six saves, including two in overtime.
The Bison return to action Tuesday night, Sept. 14, at Lock Haven. The contest is slated to begin at 7 p.m. It will be Bucknell's first road contest since its season-opening game at Virginia on Aug. 28.
