COLUMBIA, S.C. - Scott Milroth scored twice in a 15-minute span late in the contest to lead College of Charleston to a come-from-behind, 2-1 victory over Bucknell in the opening match of the adidas-South Carolina Gamecock Classic on Friday. Scott Visnic scored for the Bison, who fell to 0-1-1 on the season.
The two teams played a scoreless first 61 minutes before Visnic, the reigning Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year who scored a league-high 12 goals last season, potted his first of 2004 to give the Bison a 1-0 lead at the 61:38 mark. Visnic's 8-yard shot came off the first career assist from freshman defender Joe Mellot.
But just 1:21 after the Bison took the lead the Cougars tied it up on Milroth's point-blank shot off a feed from George Grygar. Milroth struck again in the 78th minute off an assist from Tony Myers.
Bison goalkeeper Adam Edwards made seven saves as the Bison were outshot 19-13. Keith Wiggans finished with four stops for the Cougars.
Bucknell will face the host Gamecocks on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The last time those two teams met in 2000, the Bison stunned then-eighth-ranked South Carolina 2-1.
