LEWISBURG,
Trailing 1-0, Bucknell fought back from a pair of one-goal deficits behind two second-half goals from Meiko Boynton and gave the Dragons a run for their money.
The Bison came out hungry in the second half and attacked the Dragon's net. Boynton evened things up at a goal apiece on an assist from teammate Callista Costopoulos on a penalty corner at the 46:26 mark.
The Dragons answered with a goal of their own just 33 seconds later. Drexel's Karie Walton was awarded a penalty shot after a collision with Bucknell-goalie Liz Jordan on a Drexel breakaway. Walton took advantage and put another Dragon goal on the board to make the score 2-1.
Boynton and Costopoulos continued to be Bucknell's scoring duo when their team needed them most. Boyton had hit two hard shots off of penalty corners only to be denied by Drexel-goalie Katie Dougherty. The third time was the charm for Boynton, whose third shot in the same situation ended in a score on an assist from Costopoulos once again. Boynton's clutch goal came with only
Senior Stephanie Cabral led the Bison defensive effort with two huge defensive saves, the biggest being when she stepped in behind goalie Liz Jordan during the overtime period to save a bullet from Drexel's Emily Horvat and kept her team in the game.
The game started out as what seemed like a defensive struggle. Bucknell held Drexel shot-less for the first ten minutes of the contest. On the other side of the field, the Bison came out with an aggressive attack on the Drexel cage, only to run into a brick wall in Dougherty. Dougherty had seven saves in the first half, 13 for the game, but none bigger than her save in overtime off of a Bucknell penalty corner.
The game stayed scoreless for most of the first half until Drexel's Heather Bloemker shot a rocket from the top of the circle past Jordan at the 27:03 mark.
