LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday afternoon, falling to Georgetown 4-0 in a physical contest at West Fields. Junior Shara McNeill scored one goal and assisted on two others to lead the Hoyas to the victory.
After winning a thrilling overtime contest on Sunday, the Bison could not keep their momentum going as McNeill and freshman Sara Jordan scored eight minutes apart mid-way through the first half to stake Georgetown to a 2-0 lead. Bucknell rebounded and didn't allow the Hoyas to find the back of the net over the final 19:35 of the first stanza.
Three minutes into the second half, with the score still 2-0, Bucknell goalkeeper Katie Dry made a diving save of a header from Chrissy Skogen that glanced off the post following the save. Despite the excellent stop, one of four saves for Dry, the Bison could not regain momentum as the Hoyas added another goal seven minutes later.
The score remained 3-0 until the 88th minute when Elaina Filauro took a pass from Jordan behind the defense and netted her first goal of the season.
For the game, Georgetown attempted 17 shots to Bucknell's seven. However, the physical Hoya team picked up nine fouls to three for the Bison. Freshman Jade Higgins made three saves in goal for her first career shutout for Georgetown.
The Bison return to action Sunday, Sept. 5, at Villanova. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m.
